Important COVID Update for Recreation Members

Last Updated: 21 October 2021

Welcome back Y members!

The Y NSW is excited to be reopening its recreation centres in line with government guidelines, following the easing of restrictions in New South Wales. Programs and services now available across the recreation centres in New South Wales include fitness, aquatics and learn to swim, gymnastics, and community sport.

The Y’s recreation centres in the Australian Capital Territory will be reopening gradually following COVID-19 restrictions easing across the Australian Capital Territory. As of Friday 15 October, we will be reopening fitness services only at reduced capacity for casual entry, with bookings required through the Y Fitness App. We will then be able to provide access to pools and aquatics programs from Friday 29 October.

The Y NSW has communicated with members via email and text regarding billing cycles and regular payments.

Updated Conditions of Entry

Everyone is welcome back at the Y. We do ask that you refer to our revised Covid conditions of entry below before you make your way back to our centres as there is important information about government guidance on vaccinations for our customers.

NSW - revised Conditions of Entry
ACT - revised Conditions of Entry (applicable 15-28 Oct)
ACT - revised Conditions of Entry (applicable from 29 Oct)

To help minimise congestion at the entrance, please allow additional time before your class or session, and be prepared with the below items, each time you arrive at the centre.

  1. Check In: scan the QR code on entry, or speak to our friendly reception team for assistance
  2. Vaccination: everyone aged 16 or over entering our NSW centres should be prepared to show proof of vaccination (or valid exemption) on arrival. View accepted forms of proof. For guidance on how to download your digital Covid vaccination certificate, visit the Services Australia website
  3. Membership Card: remember to also show or scan your Y membership card on entry!
  4. Mask: please wear your mask at all times (unless an exemption applies).

Each individual can now link their COVID-19 digital certificate to their Services NSW app, allowing you to show reception your check-in and vaccination status simultaneously. Click here for instructions on how to link

It is mandatory for all Y employees working at a New South Wales centre to be vaccinated. We know that in regional New South Wales, it’s been hard for people to access vaccinations. Our teams will return to work at our centres in regions with at least one jab and a commitment to be double dosed as soon as possible.

Please refer to the table below for details on opening times and specific information on what programs are available with detailed restrictions as this may vary by location.

The Y will announce any changes to our programming and services as restrictions ease in the coming months.

Keeping COVIDSafe

The Y is committed to keeping everyone healthy and safe. We’re doing our bit to contain the spread of COVID-19 and to ensure that we can remain open to keep you on track with your health, fitness and wellness goals. We fulfil this commitment by doing the following:

  • All Y NSW employees must be vaccinated against COVID-19.
  • We will ensure that everyone entering a Y office, recreation centre, aquatic centre or gymnastics club must check in using the Service NSW QR code and produce a record of their COVID-19 vaccination status or medical exemption if they are over the age of 16.
  • All our recreation and aquatic centres, and our gymnastics clubs, have COVIDSafe plans.
  • All our people are trained in COVID safe practices.
  • We comply with mask wearing stipulations.
  • We clean our sites in accordance with our COVIDSafe plans and public health recommendations.
  • We cap class sizes and the number of people allowed at our centres, in groups and in our pools so that we comply with public health orders. Book into Group Fitness Classes to secure your spot
  • We support our teams to be upfront if they are feeling unwell, to go and get tested and not return to work until they have a negative test result.
  • We maintain physical distancing in accordance with public health orders. We ask our people and our customers to do the same, and we make sure it’s clear (through signage, social media communication, regular email communication and this website) to everyone coming to a Y that this is the expectation.
  • We’re nice about reminding people when it comes to the rules on COVID-19. We do reserve the right, however, that if you’re not nice back or if you refuse to comply that we ask you to leave. We need to keep everyone safe and healthy – that’s our job.
  • We communicate to Y Members and the community regularly about how and when regulations change, including when it comes to invoicing our Members.
  • We will be activating swift shutdown procedures in the event that there is a COVID-19 infection at one of our centres and communicating with our customers and partners as a matter of urgency and on the advice of NSW Health.

Y Be Kind?

Because…after a long lockdown, we all need to be kind to ourselves, each other and our wellbeing.

The above listed requirements are in place to ensure that we keep everyone safe and healthy, and so we can continue to be open. We may need to courteously provide additional guidance or call for people to observe the regulations in place. All that we ask, is that you please be kind – to our people and to each other. We thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

It was announced today (29 September 2021) that the Oberon LGA will enter lockdown. In line with Public Health Orders, the Y NSW’s Oberon Fitness Centre will therefore be closed until Monday, 11 October 2021. The proposed opening of the Swimming Pool on 4 October 2021 will also be postponed until further notice.

We will communicate to all Y customers when we receive further information and can confirm the date and time we can reopen.

Last Updated: 22 September 2021

The NSW Premier has announced that outdoor public swimming pools can reopen across the state as of Monday 27 September. The Y NSW is diving straight back in, and we’re reopening the following centres for recreational swimming:

From Monday 27 September 2021:

We will be able to announce the programming of swimming lessons, squad training, aquatic fitness and broader fitness and recreation activities as and when public health orders are updated. This will be in line with broader reopening and easing of restrictions.

There are strict public health guidelines the Y must adhere to, and we ask for the community’s support to ensure we:

  • Maintain a maximum of 10 people in a pool lane at any time.
  • In line with existing Public Health Orders for outdoor gatherings, we must limit groups outside to:
    • Fully vaccinated people: Groups of up to five fully vaccinated people over 16 (not including children 12 years and younger).
    • Not fully vaccinated people: You can attend an outdoor gathering in a public space with 1 other person that you do not live with or your nominated visitor ("singles bubble") for exercise or outdoor recreation. If you live with more than 2 other people, you can all exercise and engage in outdoor recreation together.
  • Ask all patrons to check in using the Service NSW QR code. We cannot allow you to enter otherwise.
  •  Ask everyone to wear a mask unless they are in the pool.

Our indoor spaces will be closed in accordance with Government guidance, with the exception of change rooms and toilet facilities. Our staff will all be wearing masks in line with government guidelines, and we will be carefully managing the number of people onsite, outdoors and using indoor facilities to ensure physical distancing is maintained. We really want everyone to have the opportunity to enjoy the centre, so we may need to ask members of the community to vacate the premises after a reasonable amount of time to ensure we can let others in.

Our teams are committed to opening our centres and welcoming the community back, and we can’t wait to see you all again.

We will be greeting you with a smile, and we only ask for the same in return.

The above listed requirements are in place to ensure that we keep everyone safe and healthy, and so we can continue to be open to everyone. We may need to courteously provide additional guidance or ask people to observe the regulations in place. All that we ask, is that you please be kind – to our people and to each other. We thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Entry fees

Everyone using our sites will pay a casual once-off entry fee at this stage.

For Y members, we are not re-activating membership direct debits or aquatic membership payments at this time. This includes Fitness Passports.

We will communicate billing arrangements with our members as our centres reopen for all services. Please be reassured, if you are a member, there is nothing you need to do regarding your account and we thank you for your ongoing support as we make this long-awaited and positive transition. We look forward to being able to provide everyone with all the value you get at the Y.

Thank you everyone, and welcome back!
