About Us

We believe in the power of inspired young people.

The Y NSW is a vibrant, for-purpose organisation delivering cause-driven programs and valuable community services that strengthen young people’s lives, their families and the communities in which they live – part of the YMCA, the oldest and largest youth organisation in the world, reaching across 120 countries.

Over 170 years of building healthier, happier, connected communities.

Founded in 1853 as the YMCA of Sydney, the Y NSW is part of the YMCA – the oldest and largest youth organisation in the world. The organisation’s original focus was the fitness and wellbeing of young men, with our Pitt Street premises housing a gymnasium and a physical culture program run by well-trained instructors.

Growth continued after the wars around gymnastics, fitness and sport, with new sites opening in Arncliffe, Bankstown, Caringbah, Epping and Penrith. Today, the Y NSW is one of the largest providers of gymnastics in NSW and manages almost 40 health, fitness and indoor sports centres, stretching from the southern tip of the state to the South Australian border in the west and into far northern NSW.

In more recent years, we’ve also become one of the leading before and after school care providers in NSW, and a stronger advocate for the community, young people and people with disabilities.
