It’s often said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. For young people, it helps boost concentration and energy, promoting better health and learning outcomes. Yet studies have shown as many as one in seven Australian young people miss out on a nutritious breakfast.
YMCA Breakfast Club gives young people a healthy breakfast of cereal, toast and fruit – all served in a fun, social atmosphere run by YMCA staff and volunteers from the local community.
The YMCA Breakfast Club at Lake Haven started in 2010 and now operates four mornings of every school week, serving about 9,000 breakfasts to hungry students each year. This program provides a healthy meal and recreation opportunities in a friendly, welcoming environment – key ingredients for a positive start to the school day.
