Our Practice

We have listened to families and realise the importance of building strong trusting partnerships. We recognise the benefit to parents and children of the provision of high quality outside school hours’ care and the difference it can make to a families’ life.

At our services we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive environment where children can engage in a wide range of experiences to suit the development of every child.  Our experienced educators design programs to meet the “My Time Our Place” curriculum and are tailored specifically to each of the children attending the service.

Meaningful leisure time is the goal and educators ensure children have the choice of a wide range of activities including sport, creative arts, cooking, debating, music and drama.  The opportunity to relax, make new friends and develop social networks outside of the school classroom is actively encouraged as ‘The Framework draws on conclusive international evidence that children learn and develop the skills and behaviours required for active citizenship in a wide range of settings.’ (My Time Our Place, 2009)

Children’s involvement in planning activities and menus is supported and welcomed, parents are encouraged to be active participants of the OSHC community and educators seek suggestions from families in creating culturally relevant experiences.

All our educators undergo a rigorous recruitment process and must have a current Working with Children Check, Criminal History check and first aid qualifications.

Regular professional development ensures that all our educators are compliant with regulatory requirements and work to best practice standards. Services are all licensed and monitored to ensure compliance with the National Quality Framework and undergo Ratings and Assessment administered by the ECECD.

Children attending YMCA OSHC can expect programs that are designed to be exciting and innovative.  Children are encouraged to provide ideas and suggestions for the activities they would like to see at OSHC. Art and craft, music, drama, board games, cooking, knitting and relaxing with friends or playing tennis, soccer, handball and hopscotch are all every day activities at YMCA OSHC.

Educators encourage children to learn new skills, form friendships and unwind after school in a supportive, inclusive and safe environment. Whatever your interests, all children are valued members of the OSHC community.  The YMCA OSHC is a place where you belong and can do as much or as little as you feel like.
