Families are invited to get active, connect with their community, and enjoy an afternoon of entertainment at the Y Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre (KFAC) Family Fun Day on Sunday, October 11, from 1pm to 5pm.
The event will spotlight the centre's role in providing local families with opportunities to stay active, build healthy habits and connect with one another through swimming, fitness and recreational programs. The centre supports the health and wellbeing of the Ku-ring-gai community, creating a welcoming space where everyone can feel safe, connect and thrive.
Family Fun Day will feature a range of activities for all ages including a pool inflatable course, face painting by Go Seek, live entertainment from DJ KitKat, free group fitness classes, free parent and baby Learn to Swim classes, basketball, and gymnastics activities.
Families can take advantage of free swim assessments to find out which Learn to Swim level is right for their child and to ensure children are ready to cool off safely during the summer season. All new Learn to Swim enrolments on the day will receive a complimentary Speedo hooded towel, and the Spring Campaign Offer for one free lesson will also be available on the day.
Additionally, the event will feature a barbecue fundraiser by Ku-ring-gai Amateur Swimming Club, kiosk food and coffee, the Junior Basketball Academy's (JBA) popular three-point challenge, and a Kinder Gym obstacle course from the Y St Ives. There will be plenty of opportunities for families to stay fuelled while enjoying the festivities.
Ku-ring-gai Deputy Mayor Cr Matthew Devlin said he is looking forward to the event.
"KFAC is one of those local places that’s always buzzing - kids learning to swim, families in the pool, people training, exercising or just catching up," he said.
"I’ve lived locally for a long time, and it’s fantastic to see how much the centre has become part of everyday community life. Sunday should be a great afternoon, and a whole lot of fun!".
Entry to the event is a $1 donation per person, with all proceeds helping the Y NSW continue its not-for-profit work supporting communities across NSW.
“As a not-for-profit, our purpose is to inspire lives and strengthen communities. Events like Family Fun Day help bring that purpose to life by creating opportunities for people of all ages to connect, be active and access programs that support their wellbeing,” said Y NSW COO George Perry.
“The Y Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre is more than a fitness and aquatic facility; it's a vibrant community hub where people are supported to live healthier, more connected lives. We're delighted to welcome the community for a day that showcases everything the centre has to offer.”
Centre Manager at the Y Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre Max Olsson said the event is a chance to celebrate the centre's role as a community hub.
"We're excited to welcome families through our doors for an afternoon of fun, fitness, and community spirit. Whether you're keen to swim, try a fitness class, enjoy the entertainment, or simply spend time with family and friends, there's something for everyone to enjoy,” he said.
"Family Fun Day is a wonderful opportunity for people to experience everything our centre has to offer while supporting a great cause and connecting with their local community."
