Camp Yarramundi's Next Chapter Starts Here

By investing in accessible, inclusive experiences and facilities, Camp Yarramundi is helping shape a brighter future for generations to come. After all, every journey of confidence, connection and discovery starts somewhere, and for many, it starts here.

Camp Yarramundi's Next Chapter Starts Here

Great adventure for all begins with a sense of belonging. At Camp Yarramundi, it starts here, with inclusive experiences that empower every young person to discover what they are capable of, regardless of background or ability.

Reopening in 2028 after a $49 million redevelopment, Camp Yarramundi will become a world-class outdoor education centre that will include accessible adventure infrastructure, high and low ropes courses, giant single and dual swings, and rock climbing and abseiling facilities.

The redevelopment will see the venue’s capacity increase by almost double, making it one of the largest and most inclusive outdoor education facilities in Australia.

Accessibility and inclusion are central to the redevelopment, with accommodation, amenities and adventure activities being designed to enable more people of different ages and abilities to participate.

“This major redevelopment will ensure Camp Yarramundi can continue to be a great outdoor attraction right here in Western Sydney,” said NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Western Sydney Prue Car.

“Thousands of people right across the state will have a greater opportunity to get outdoors, try new skills and enjoy the very best our region has to offer.”

Y NSW CEO Rob Kennaugh said the 90-year-old site’s legacy can be seen in the generations of campers whose confidence, resilience and connection have been shaped by their experiences at camp.

“Every generation has its Camp Yarramundi story. We're proud to be investing in the next chapter of the camp's history, ensuring it continues to inspire adventure and personal growth for generations to come,” he said.

“Camp Yarramundi is so much more than just camping; it’s about belonging, connection and inspiring lives.”

The upgrade will deliver:

  • 84 new cabins across the site to accommodate more than 430 guests.
  • An upgraded and expanded dining facility with new commercial kitchen equipment and a second servery.
  • Upgraded recreation facilities, including a climbing wall.
  • A garden that will provide both produce and education opportunities.
  • Outdoor kitchens and an amphitheatre to support music events.
  • Conference and events centre.
  • Upgrades to the caretaker's lodge.

The facility will support school camps, youth programs, adult leader training, workshops and community events. Founder and Director of The Sensory Gym Colleen Hacker said she is excited to see the camp reopen.

“We have such a longstanding relationship with the Y,” she said.

“We were brought in to offer our opinions about what kinds of activities would work and how Camp could be made more accessible.

“We can’t wait to get back to see how it has all worked out. Our relationship with the Y has been really collaborative throughout; they have been really responsive to our needs – and we have a lot of them.”

The Sensory Gym is a paediatric occupational therapy practice that ran its first camp in 2009.

“Most of the children that I work with are neurodivergent in terms of a primary condition or diagnosis, and they are often children who really struggle in grouped environments where they have to work with others… being here and being outdoors – away from devices and getting grounded in nature – is so powerful for those children,” Hacker stated.

Founder and Director of Recovery Camp, Associate Professor Christopher Patterson, echoed the excitement about the redevelopment.

“Recovery Camp’s first camp was here, and our growth over the last decade-plus has had Yarramundi threaded throughout its history,” he said about the award-winning mental health organisation.

“This new venue will enable us to have more people here, and we can host camps in a more inclusive open, way.”

Operations Manager at M&A Butchery Phill Diasinos is also keen to see Camp Yarramundi at full strength to continue inspiring lives through outdoor adventure.

“They do tremendous work in the community. If your child hasn’t gone through the program, then someone you know has, or you have been through it yourself,” he said.

“They have been here for 90 years now, and it’s amazing to see that they have got the funding to do the best job that they possibly can and help the most people possible.”

M&A Butchery has been supplying Camp Yarramundi for roughly a decade.

“They supported us and we supported them throughout the floods and some of the tough times in the community. We have a great relationship with them,” Diasinos said.

As Camp Yarramundi evolves to meet the needs of future generations, it remains grounded in what matters most: creating a place where everyone feels welcome and supported to reach their potential.

With upgraded facilities, inclusive programs and a strong connection to the local community, Camp Yarramundi will continue to create opportunities for every young person to thrive.

As the venue enters an exciting new chapter, we are reminded that inspiring lives through inclusive outdoor education starts here. Read more about Camp Yarramundi online here.
