The Y NSW is committed to setting a new benchmark in safeguarding children and at-risk adults. This commitment goes beyond compliance and is grounded in accountability, learning, and meaningful change.
We acknowledge that, in the past, our safeguarding practices were not sufficient and that this resulted in harm. We recognise and deeply regret the pain and trauma experienced by victim-survivors. We acknowledge the courage of those who came forward, spoke their truth, and sought justice, often at great personal cost.
The experiences shared by victim-survivors, including through criminal justice processes and the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, exposed serious failures in safeguarding and institutional responses. We are grateful to those who contributed to these processes and recognise the critical role their voices played in driving awareness, accountability, and reform.
Taking responsibility for past shortcomings is essential and the Y NSW has been working hard to substantially uplift its safeguarding practices. This is an ongoing priority and focus area, and we are committed to doing all we can to prevent harm from occurring again.
Our vision is to create environments where every person in our care is supported, respected, and empowered to thrive through the programs and services we provide.
Our ongoing commitment
Safeguarding is an ongoing responsibility, and we remain committed to strengthening our culture, policies, training, and accountability to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and at-risk adults in our care.
