How basketball at The Y Ryde builds more than skills
Community. One word. Endless meaning. On semi-final night at The Y Ryde, Emma and her team, battled through a fast-paced and fiercely contested match, securing a thrilling two-point victory. When asked why she chooses to play basketball at The Y, her answer is simple:
"The community."
Every Sunday, Emma takes to the court at The Y Ryde. Her brother also plays there twice a week, competing on both Thursday and Sunday nights. While they love the competition, it's the people who keep them coming back.
At The Y, familiar faces become friends. Teammates become part of your weekly routine. Whether it's on the court, in the centre, or out in the local area, there's a genuine sense of connection that makes everyone feel welcome. People know each other's names, celebrate each other's successes, and create an environment where everyone belongs.
Emma has experienced The Y from every angle. She's played, refereed and stepped in wherever she was needed. For her, basketball is more than a game. She loves the intensity, the excitement, and the challenge, but most importantly, she values the relationships and sense of belonging that surround it.
That's what makes The Y different.
The Y isn't just a place to play sport. It's where friendships are formed, confidence grows, and communities come together. Week after week, people return not only for the game, but for the connections that make it meaningful.
Play for the game. Stay for the community.
