The YMCA-run centre hopes the addition of the cover will mean an increase in participation in fitness activity, particularly though winter.
It was funded by a grant of $26,174 secured by Member for Wyong, David Harris MP, through the State Government’s Community Building Partnership program.
"Community Building Partnerships are an important funding source for local projects,” Mr Harris said.
"This project will benefit a significant number of locals and I am pleased we could support this project.
"YMCA is a great organisation and I congratulate them on the work they do promoting healthy lifestyle."
YMCA NSW CEO Leisa Hart said the new cover is another way the centre is supporting the Lake Haven community to live healthier lives.
“YMCA NSW is committed to connecting people to their communities to live healthier and happier lives,” she said. “This fantastic new all-weather cover will do just that – allow people to use the outdoor area rain, hail or shine.”
Lake Haven Recreation Centre is used by a range of community groups including high schools, sporting clubs, YMCA program participants and others, and hosts 37 group fitness classes each week such as Mums and Bubs, Commando Kids and PrYme Movers for seniors.
It also offers a range of benevolent programs such as fee assistance, breakfast club for local school children four days a week, mums and bubs classes and inclusive programs for people with a disability.
