Indoor Program Pool Closure

24 Aug 2018

Due to planned maintenance, our indoor program pool will be closed from Sunday 2 September.  The works – tile repair and replacement – will take approximately five weeks and requires the pool to be fully drained.  The anticipated re-open date is Friday 5 October.

During the maintenance, the 25 metre pool will accommodate both swimming lessons and lap lanes.  Swim school participants will receive notification of these changes via email and the wet deck supervisor will be available to help participants locate their class.  Lap lane availability will be updated regularly on our website (link: https://www.ymcansw.org.au/centres/ku-ring-gai-fitness-aquatic-centre/timetables/119/)

We will be working closely with Ku-ring-gai Council and the contractor to complete the work as quickly as possible.  We apologise for any inconvenience the closure may cause.

If you would like more information please see our FAQs below, or call the Centre on 9499 2005.

FAQs

Q: When will the indoor program pool be closed?

A: It will be closed from Sunday 2 September to approximately Friday 5 October.

Q: Why is the pool closed for so long?

A: The works we are undertaking involves repairing and replacing tiles and requires the pool to be completely drained.

Q: How will this affect swimming lessons?

A: All swimming lessons will run at normal scheduled times.  The only difference will be the location, with all program pool lessons relocated to the 25 metre pool.

Q: How will I know where my swimming lesson is?

A: The wet deck supervisor will be available to direct you to your class.  Please allow extra time on week 1.

Q: What do I do if my child does not like having lessons in the 25 metre pool?

A: There are many advantages to continuous lessons and to exposing children to different swimming environments.  These include developing deep water confidence from learning additional water safely skills during lessons, experiencing different aquatic environments, and continuous swimming lessons in preparation for summer.  However, if you still have concerns please call our Frontline Coordinator Andrea Alvarado on 9499 2005 as soon as possible.

Q: Is there a difference in temperature between the program pool and the 25 metre pool?

A: Yes.  The program pool is usually 31 degrees while the 25 metre pool is usually 29 degrees.

Q: Will the toddler pool and splash pool remain open?

A: Yes it will.

Q: How many lap lanes will be available?

A: This will vary according to the time of day. Please refer to our website for lane availability (link: https://www.ymcansw.org.au/centres/ku-ring-gai-fitness-aquatic-centre/timetables/119/)

Q: Why is the indoor program pool being closed so soon after the closure of the 50 outdoor pool?
A: Unfortunately, the closure of the 50 metre pool was unexpected due to equipment failure.  In comparison, the closure of the indoor program pool is for planned maintenance and repairs.

Q: Will aqua fitness classes be affected by the relocation of swimming classes to the 25 metre pool?

A: Only the Saturday class will be relocated to the 50 metre pool.  All aqua classes will run as normal.
