From Fear to Confidence: KFAC Swim School Participants Share Their Journey

This week, two squad participants from the Y Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre share how they've overcome their fears, gained confidence and developed new skills with the guidance of Y NSW swim instructors.

Daniella, Silver Squad

My name is Daniella, and I'm 10 years old. I joined the swim school when I was five years old.

When I first started swimming, I was very nervous. My biggest challenge was getting into the pool because I was scared. As I kept coming to lessons, I became much more confident, especially when I moved into the 25-metre pool.

I am really proud to have progressed into the squad program. I enjoy coming to training every day because I like challenging myself and improving my swimming. I have also enjoyed taking part in swimming carnivals, which have helped me build my confidence and gain more experience.

I would definitely recommend this swim school to other children because the teachers are really kind, supportive and make swimming fun. I have had a great experience, and I especially enjoy training with BK, who has helped me improve and become a more confident swimmer.

Zoe, Bronze Squad

My name is Zoe, and I started swimming at the Y when I was five years old in the Sardine level. I'm now 11 years old and swimming in the Bronze Squad.

When I first started, I was really scared of the water. As I kept coming to lessons and practising, swimming became much easier and I grew more confident.

The biggest challenge for me was moving from the program pool into the 25-metre pool when I progressed to Salmon level. It felt like a big step, but with the support of my teachers I became more comfortable and confident.

One of the skills that took me the longest to learn was diving. It wasn't easy at first, but I kept trying and eventually achieved it.

I still remember my teacher, Elsa. She was a great teacher who always encouraged me and helped me improve.

I love swimming, and I'm very proud that I have progressed all the way to the Bronze Squad.

The teachers encourage you every step of the way, help you overcome your fears and support you as you achieve your goals. Swimming has been a wonderful experience for me, and I'm proud of how far I've come.
