What a day at The Y Bennelong Sports Centre!
On Saturday 9 May, we officially opened the doors to the state of the art, Y Bennelong Sports Centre, with over 2,500 netballers and families joining us throughout the day for the start of the winter netball season. We acknowledge the Eastwood Ryde Netball Association, whose partnership and long connection to local netball has been an important part of this centre from the beginning, and we are excited to build on this partnership for the next 25 years.
From the first games on court to families walking through the centre, meeting the team and exploring the new spaces, it was a great reminder of why facilities like this matter to local communities. The day also gave people a chance to see the centre in action, with basketball and pickleball showcased on courts as well.
The Y has been part of the Ryde community for more than 15 years, and we’re proud to continue that work at the Y Bennelong Sports Centre, delivered in partnership with the NSW Department of Education.
We thank Premier Chris Minns for officially opening the facility, and acknowledge Jerome Laxale, Jordan Lane, Trenton Brown and Lyndal Howison for joining us on the day.
We were also proud to see the opening recognised in the media, with coverage on Channel 7 News, Channel 9 News and ABC Radio over the weekend.
A huge thank you to the Y NSW team who worked so hard to get us to opening day, a truly genuine team effort.
With the Y’s long history running sport and recreation centres across NSW, we know these spaces do more than host games. They give people a place to be active, feel welcome, meet others and take part in community life.
We’re proud to operate this new state of the art community hub and look forward to seeing it grow with the Ryde community.
