A world-class outdoor education centre is coming to Western Sydney, with work officially underway on the $49 million redevelopment of Y NSW’s Camp Yarramundi, transforming the 90-year-old site into a thriving destination for recreation and outdoor learning.
Operating since 1937, Camp Yarramundi has welcomed generations of school students, families and community groups to its riverside site in the Hawkesbury.
The redevelopment is backed by more than $44 million from the NSW Government's Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants program, and construction is set to be completed by late 2027 to welcome visitors from the start of 2028.
The upgrade will deliver:
- 84 new cabins across the site to accommodate more than 430 guests
- an upgraded and expanded dining facility with new commercial kitchen equipment and a second servery
- upgraded recreation facilities, including a climbing wall
- a garden that will provide both produce and education opportunities
- outdoor kitchens and an amphitheatre to support music events
- conference and events centre
- upgrades to the caretaker's lodge.
The site will include accessible adventure infrastructure, high and low ropes courses, giant single and dual swings, and rock climbing and abseiling facilities.
The redevelopment will see the venue’s capacity increase by almost double, making it one of the largest and most inclusive outdoor education facilities in Australia.
The facility will support school camps, youth programs, adult leader training, workshops and community events, helping people of all ages develop confidence and resilience through outdoor learning.
Accessibility and inclusion are central to the redevelopment, with accommodation, amenities and adventure activities being designed to enable more people of different ages and abilities to participate.
The NSW Government’s $2 billion Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program has funded 191 transformational projects across the region, making Western Sydney an even better place to live, work and raise a family.

“Backed by the Minns Labor Government, the new Camp Yarramundi will ensure this much-loved facility continues to serve the community for generations to come.”
