All things youth with YMCA at Mount Annan Leisure Centre

Young people will be leading the way with YMCA NSW in the annual Youth Week celebrations at Mount Annan Leisure Centre.

There will be plenty of fun and interactive activities from Friday 13 April until Sunday, 22 April.

Mount Annan Leisure Centre Fitness Coordinator Marilyn Oliver and Programs Coordinator Daniel McLellan have been working with young people from the centre to pull together a diverse range of Youth Week activities.

“The program has been organised by young people for young people and puts this year’s theme of ‘Unity Through Diversity’ front and centre,” Ms Oliver said.

“Here at YMCA NSW we believe in the power of inspired young people and this year’s Youth Week schedule celebrates young people’s talent and facilitates positive sports participation.

“If you are between the ages of 12 and 25, I encourage you to come along to the free activities we’re holding at the Mount Annan Leisure Centre.”

The Youth Week celebrations will kick off with the first of two late-night basketball competitions from 9pm on 13 April.

Also included in the week’s line-up of activities are a hands-on weightlifting workshop, bubble soccer, sporting competitions and Camden Council’s Dive In Movie Night.

“Young people can come down and enjoy a free barbecue and a dip in the pool,” Ms Oliver said. “Lie back on a pool noodle and enjoy a movie with all your friends or even make some new ones.

“At the interactive weightlifting workshop you can learn how to use the machines, perform the correct technique for strength exercises and how to write a basic program.

“Have you ever wondered, ‘am I using this machine properly?’ or ‘am I lifting the right way?’.

“Our fitness instructors can show you the correct techniques to help you increase your strength, fitness, confidence and overall wellbeing, in an empowering environment.”

Players of all skill levels are welcome to join in the fun at Mount Annan Leisure Centre for the Futsal, Netball and Volleyball competitions with three divisions for men and women – ages 12 to 14, 15 to 17 and 18 plus.

Mr McLellan said: “Our sports competitions provide participants the chance to have fun, explore a new sport and develop their skills in a safe and supportive environment.”

YMCA NSW’s Youth Week activities were made possible by Camden Council.
