Why Essential Qualifications matter
At the Y, essential qualifications help us create safe, supportive and high-quality experiences for children, young people, families and communities.
Many roles require specific qualifications, certifications or checks to ensure team members have the knowledge and skills needed to perform their role safely and effectively.
These requirements help protect our people, customers and communities while supporting industry and legislative requirements.
Check Your Position Description
Before applying, we recommend reviewing the position description carefully.
The position description will outline:
- Essential qualifications
- Certifications
- Licences
- Compliance requirements
- Experience requirements (if applicable)
Requirements vary between roles, so the position description is always the best place to confirm what's required.
Qualification Requirements
CPR
If CPR is required for your role, the qualification must be:
- Shown as having completed: HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
- Current and valid
- Issued by an Australian Registered Training Organisation (RTO)
First Aid
If First Aid is required for your role, the qualification must be:
- For Children's Services roles, shown as having completed HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting
- For all other roles, shown as having completed HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
- Current and valid
- Issued by an Australian Registered Training Organisation (RTO)
Industry-Specific Qualifications
Depending on the role, additional qualifications may be required. Examples may include:
- Swim Teaching qualifications & licences
- Aquatics certifications & licences
- Fitness qualifications (e.g. AUSactive)
- Early Childhood qualifications
- Community Services qualifications
- Other role-specific certifications

- Completed
- Current
- Valid
- Verified
