Choose the right holiday experience for your child: Vacation Care for approved care and CCS eligibility, Holiday Camps for fun and variety, or Skills Camps for focused coaching in sports like swimming, gymnastics and basketball. Find the holiday program that’s right for your child!
School holidays should be exciting for kids and stress-free for parents. But with so many different program types available, it's easy to feel unsure about which option is the best fit for your child and your family's needs.
At the Y NSW, we offer three distinct holiday program experiences:
While they can sometimes look similar on the surface, they are designed for different family needs and child interests.
The simple rule?
If it's care, it's Vacation Care. If it's play, it's a Camp.
And when it comes to Camps:
Varied activities = Holiday Camp.
One sport, one focus = Skills Camp.
Let's break it down.
Vacation Care: Full-Day Care and Fun During the Holidays
Every Day Is Something Different
Vacation Care is designed for families who need approved all-day school holiday care in a safe, supportive environment.
Hosted at Y OSHC services, Vacation Care combines engaging activities with the structure and supervision families rely on during the school holidays.
Children can enjoy a wide variety of experiences throughout the day, including:
The Key Difference: Child Care Subsidy Eligible
This is the most important distinction between Vacation Care and our other holiday programs.
Vacation Care is eligible for the Child Care Subsidy (CCS), making it the only one of our holiday program offerings that may qualify for child care rebates.
For many families, this makes Vacation Care the most affordable and practical option when holiday care is needed.
Best For:
✅ Parents needing approved all-day school holiday care
✅ Families wanting access to Child Care Subsidy benefits
✅ Children who enjoy variety and trying something different each day
Holiday Camps: Fun, Active and Packed with Variety
A Holiday Full of Sport, Games and Creativity
If you're looking for an exciting holiday experience but don't need approved child care, Holiday Camps are a fantastic option.
Held at Y Sport & Recreation Centres, Holiday Camps are all about giving children an active, social and engaging day filled with a mix of experiences.
Children might spend their day:
The atmosphere is energetic, playful and designed to create memorable holiday experiences.
Important to Know
While Holiday Camps include many of the same fun activities children enjoy in Vacation Care, they are not child-care-rebate eligible.
This is often the biggest point of confusion for families, so it's worth remembering:
Vacation Care = approved care and CCS eligible.
Holiday Camps = activity-based holiday programs and not CCS eligible.
Best For:
✅ Families wanting a fun holiday activity option
✅ Children who enjoy variety and trying new things
✅ Parents seeking flexible, day-by-day holiday bookings
Holiday Skills Camps: Real Coaching, Real Progress
Get Better at the Sport They Love
Some children don't just want to participate. They want to improve.
That's where Holiday Skills Camps come in.
Designed for kids who are passionate about a particular sport, Skills Camps provide focused coaching and structured skill development from experienced coaches.
Current Skills Camp options include:
Unlike Holiday Camps, which are broad and varied, Skills Camps are centred around a single sport and helping children build real capability and confidence.
Children receive structured instruction, coaching feedback and opportunities to strengthen techniques in a supportive environment.
Why Families Love Skills Camps
Skills Camps offer something beyond holiday entertainment.
Children leave feeling:
Whether they're learning the fundamentals or refining advanced techniques, Skills Camps create meaningful progress in a short period of time.
Best For:
✅ Children passionate about swimming, gymnastics or basketball
✅ Kids looking to improve performance and confidence
✅ Families wanting a coaching-focused holiday experience
So, Which Holiday Program Should You Choose?
The right choice depends on what your family needs most during the holidays.
