The Y NSW announced as manager of CentrePoint Sport and Leisure Centre in Blayney

YMCA NSW (The Y) has been awarded a contract of up to two years to operate and manage the newly refurbished CentrePoint Sport and Leisure Centre in Blayney NSW.

The facility includes three heated indoor pools, dry courts, scout hall and a gymnasium and recently underwent a $4.8 million upgrade.

The Y is an expert in regional recreation operations in NSW and the ACT and will commence management of the centre from early September. As a not-for profit organisation, the Y is committed to delivering services that improve the physical, mental health and social wellbeing of communities.

Blayney Mayor, Cr Scott Ferguson said "The findings of the CentrePoint Operational Review conducted by Council whilst the facility was closed for renovations revealed that CentrePoint will not maximise or reach its full potential for patrons, the community or Council if Council retained the status quo of managing the facility.  Council has committed significant investment into the pool refurbishment project, and we need to provide CentrePoint with the best possible guidance to ensure the facility maximises its potential."

The Y NSW Chief Executive Officer Susannah Le Bron said the organisation is thrilled to be partnering and working with Blayney Shire Council for the betterment of the health and wellbeing of another rural community.

"The Y has a presence in a number of rural locations and we’re delighted to be expanding that regional footprint to include the Blayney Shire Council area.

"The Y with support from the Council will shortly begin a range of community and stakeholder sessions to ensure the needs and ideas of locals are being heard. Sessions will commence from early July."

The Y NSW Area Manager Shane Simmons said he welcomes feedback from the local community. “I’d like to encourage current members and the wider community of Blayney Shire to provide input into our upcoming consultation sessions as we work together to make CentrePoint a desired destination for all local residents – we’re also eager to understand what types of programs or wellbeing services are needed in the community."

The Y will continue to work with Council to secure local staff for positions with a view of increasing the number of jobs created at the Centre. At least 15 roles will be available for local application in the coming weeks via the Y NSW website including centre coordinator, fitness instructors, customer service officers, lifeguards, birthday party hosts and more.
