Meet Ruth Wynter!
Ruth, 72, is a valued member of the YMCA family and a long-time patron of the Manning Aquatic Leisure Centre. This is her story...
"I started exercising in my thirties because of a disability my mum was born with. To watch her getting around was difficult and she gave me inspiration to start exercising.
To this day I still do step, gentle exercise and pump three times a week. I do it for my wellbeing as it gives me energy, keeps me fit and active, and keeps my weight under control. I am grateful for that. Just because we get older doesn't mean you can't have a happy, healthy and fulfilling life.
The instructors here at the YMCA are great and that makes a difference. It's a great way to socialise with all ages. I have made many friends and we make it fun while working hard. I have had many young people come up and say that I have inspired them. The fact that I can encourage others to be fit and healthy is rewarding.
Dedication is very important. You look after your car so why not look after your body and have a much longer and happier life."Back to blog
